Diplomas
IB Diploma (IB DP)
In Grades 11-12, BMS offers students the International Baccalaureate Diploma, which is one of the most rigorous and respected Secondary School diplomas due to its demanding requirements and holistic framework. In addition, the IB Diploma equips our students with the necessary skills and attitudes required for success in university or vocational pursuits. In essence, the program offers students a traditional liberal arts curriculum, matched with three important features at its core: the Extended Essay (EE), Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS), as well as a Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course.
The IB Diploma offers our students the opportunity to learn how to evaluate information critically and is an integral part of the program. In exposing our students to a wide breadth and depth of knowledge, we have the central aim to develop both skills and character to excel in international settings after graduation. Students take ownership for this learning and are given the opportunity to choose subjects from a diverse subject offering, ranging over six groups and completing 6 courses to receive their diploma.
International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE)
In Grades 9-10, BMS offers students the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), a globally recognized and sought-after leaving certificate, allowing our students to pursue such senior school diplomas such as the IB DP, the Advance Placement Diploma (US), and A/AS Level (UK). The Berlin Metropolitan School offers its students a wide variety of subjects within the IGCSE and the opportunity to choose at their ability and level, so as to support success academic achievement. A diverse subject selection also allows our students to study topics of interest and develops their understanding of key themes in a global, international context. In doing so, we prepare our students with the necessary content and independent skill set to successfully complete the IB DP in the senior years.
Mittlerer Schulabschluss (MSA)
Parallel and in conjunction with the IGCSE, students are offered the Mittlerer Schulabschluss (MSA) which is part of the Berlin Framework Curriculum and gives students the opportunity to be awarded a Grade 10 leaving certificate. BMS recognizes the unique asset of equipping our students with various pathways to educational and vocational achievement and recognizes the asset of awarding our national and international students with a certificate that opens up many pathways of success in Germany. In addition, the MSA offers our students a nationally-recognized leaving certificate in order to pursue a German school diploma should they choose to do so later in their school career.
Middle Years
In Grades 7-8, the Middle School core program offers the building blocks to successfully complete the more challenging Diplomas offered at Berlin Metropolitan School in the later years. In ensuring that students learn the necessary skills for the IGCSE, MSA, and IB Diploma, a unique core program equips our students with the skills, content, and confidence to exceed in learning. The program exposes students to a wide range of assessment techniques, training for formal examinations, and provides a tailored platform to prepare our students for Grades 9&10.
