Accreditations & Authorizations

Berlin Metropolitan School is authorized and accredited by leading national and international authorities in international education.

We are proud to be an authorized IBO World School, allowing us to offer our students from the age of 3 in Kindergarten through to completion of Grade 6, the Primary Years Programme (PYP). In addition, this authorization allows us to offer the Diploma Programme in Grades 11 and 12, culminating into the internationally recognized and respected IB Diploma in 12th Grade.

In addition, BMS is an authorized as a Cambridge International School, allowing BMS to teach the Cambridge IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) across 6 subject groups in Grades 9 & 10, culminating into a school-leaving certificate in 10th Grade.

In order to provide our students access to local curriculum programs and their additional benefits, Berlin Metropolitan school holds the status of a state-recognized substitute school from Grades 1-10, awarded by the Berlin Senate Education Authority. In Grade 10, BMS offers the Mittleren Schulabschluss (MSA) which is the local equivalent to the IGCSE and a school-leaving diploma. In addition, BMS is a state-authorized substitute school in Grades 11&12 following the authorization awarded to our upper secondary school.

With all curriculum authorizations in our K-12 structure, BMS must complete extensive reviews of our ability to effectively administer the programs. These audits are conducted by external authorization bodies every 3 to 5 years, to ensure that both instructional quality is continuously maintained as well as the further development of our curriculum programs.

In addition to our commitment to important accreditations and authorizations for our academic program, BMS also places a keen focus on institutional development and quality growth. We are proud to be accredited by the Council of International schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), both leading authorities in the international accreditation of educational institutions.  BMS also holds the status of a European Environmental School and an International Sustainability School, as awarded by the Berlin Senate Education Authority in Spring 2020.

BMS is a member of key institutions aimed at promoting a commitment to excellence in international education. To this end, BMS is a member of the Association of German International Schools (AGIS), the Council of International Schools (CIS), as well as the Educational Collaborative for International Schools (ECIS).
