Student Support

Student Support

A central focus of our school program is the holistic development of our students. To this end, we support our students to achieve the best possible academic results and to actively assist in their social and emotional development. Our support structure is designed to achieve this goal and covers all areas of developmental support.

Student Support

Our tutors fulfill an important role within our student support structure, as they maintain both a broader overview of student life in BMS Secondary as well as holistic assessment of academic achievement.  Our approach to a holistic tutor system is twofold: the tutor develops a close and trustful relationship to their students and in doing so, acts as a source of support and confidence for all students in that group. All BMS students have a dedicated period of tutor time in their schedule and tutors are the first contact person for BMS parents concerning all academic and developmental concerns.

The tutors collaborate closely with a team of diverse experts, who ensure the social and emotional well-being of our students, their physical and psychological, as well as the necessary academic support our students need to succeed. Our team of experts include a Head of Learning Support, School Counselor, as well as our School Nurse, Support Teachers, and our Child Protection Officer.  Our in-house experts are available to all students in Grades 7-12, and they work closely with tutors, teachers, heads of grade, school leadership, the students, families, and external experts as well. We seek to aid our students in BMS Secondary during the critical phases of adolescence, offering them the necessary tools and guidance to navigate this important developmental step.

Academic support is Secondary places emphasis on allowing all students to actively participate in instruction, be it in the accommodations for language support or direct learning needs. Our language support structures include EAL (English as an additional language) and GAL (German as an additional language) and supports our students in developing the necessary language ability for our main school languages of German and English. Our goal is to ensure that students can participate in mainstream language instruction and have the necessary language ability to ensure successful  academic achievement in our examinations. BMS is a certified GAL Center.
