It is important for children of all ages to have reliable routines and to be actively integrated into the day’s schedule. This is why we follow clear, simple structures in the Early Learning phase in particular to provide orientation for the children. Our regular kindergarten and preschool hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This is when all learning activities, programs and excursions take place.
In order to be able to guarantee the reliability of the routine and also be able to implement our diverse program, we encourage our families to arrive between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. so that we can start punctually with all children attending the morning circle at 9:00 a.m. The morning circle is an important part of our students’ routine because this is when the group gets together in order to speak about their current projects, review what they have learned but also to share their feelings, ideas and hopes with one another.
As a restorative practice school, we also use the morning circle to talk about solving conflicts and to give students a feeling of belonging and security. Between 9:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., all our students work on their various projects and are of course getting hungry when lunch comes around at 12:00 p.m. Students eat in their classrooms and then prepare their room for quiet time after lunch.
This is followed by playtime, where our students can enjoy reading, arts and crafts and play. At 3:00 p.m., it’s time for an afternoon snack. After their afternoon snack, students have time to go outside into the fresh air for outdoor play. Because we adjust our school schedule to the lives and needs of our families, we offer an early care session from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and afternoon care from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
