In a fast-changing society influenced by globalization, the wide distribution of knowledge, an unprecedented pace of innovation, a quality education is becoming more important as a way of preparing for a future career. Intercultural understanding, critical thinking, problem-solving and social skills, language and communication abilities, a broad spectrum of knowledge, and the ability to think in a cross-disciplinary way are also increasing in significance.
Berlin Metropolitan School offers the ideal framework for our students to meet the challenges facing them in the 21st century. We aim to impart the relevant knowledge and values that our students require in order to become responsible, independent, and critical-thinking individuals. In order to realize this goal, Berlin Metropolitan School has developed a modern, rigorous, and coherent school program from kindergarten through to graduation in grade 12. We have combined the best international school programs with the local curriculum and have aligned these standards to align with the standards of a comprehensive and modern education.
Alongside a high quality of teaching and learning, we offer all families maximum flexibility in terms of further education in Germany or abroad due to our selected programs and diplomas offered at BMS.
In order to reflect the local learning targets and to fulfill the necessary standards, we have linked the Primary Years Programme with the Berlin Educational Program for both kindergarten and preschool, as well as with the Berlin Framework Curriculum for grades 1 to 6.
For grades 7 through 10, we use the Cambridge Program as the basis for our curriculum, which is also supplemented by the learning targets and standards of the Berlin framework curriculum. Grades 9 and 10 are intensive courses of study that lead to the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and German Mittlerer Schulabschluss (MSA) with the completion of the tenth grade. Both qualifications will enable our students to complete professional training or higher education in Germany or abroad.
For grades 11 and 12, we offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme curriculum, which our students complete with the IB Diploma in grade 12. The IB Diploma is one of the most respected school-leaving certificate in the world, with a rigorous approach to a comprehensive education in the senior years. Grade 12 is often seen as a pre-university year, which is why IBDP graduates are particularly welcomed at universities. The IB Diploma gives our students the option of pursuing higher education both in Germany and abroad.
Our academic program is complemented by a co-curricula education program, which offers students from both the primary and secondary school a broad and diverse program with clubs, projects, year-round courses, and a wide range of activities from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
