Our DP Art students recently exhibited their initial artworks, as part of their DP studies in the fine and digital arts. The themes are selected by the students based on their passions and interests and Semester 1 is dedicated to laying the groundwork for the graduation exhibition in Spring 2023.

MSA/IGCSE: Information Evening for students transitioning from Grade 8 to Grade 9

Our dedicated faculty and leadership will host an online session for Grade 8 parents, outlining the main components of the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and Mittlerer Schulabschluss (MSA) in Grades 9&10. Join us online where parents can pose questions to our faculty and leadership and learn on what to expect during these important foundational years in Secondary school.

BMS Model UN Club—Congratulations and Accolades from Oxford!

Our model UN students have represented BMS in admirable and engaging ways yet again, meeting with their fellow peers from across the globe for the recent Oxford Model UN to discuss the future of global governance. The conference marks the first live session for our students, having met consistently online for all conference over the last two years. In true fashion, the team took home a total of 5 awards. Congratulations to the entire group on their achievements! Hats off to our award recipients: Best Delegate: Isadora and Zephyr, Outstanding Delegate: Ninad, Victor, and Charlotte.

Our Grade 5 & 6 parents will meet with meet with their classroom teachers and specialists, to review student progress thus far in Semester 1 and discuss learning goals as a whole. We look forward to welcoming parents on November 28th & 29th!

Our Grade 1-6 students are gearing up for our annual Primary School Science Fair, led by our science coordinator and designed by our students. We look forward to welcoming parents in the afternoon to see live experiments and observe our budding scientists in action!

BMS Makerspace: Robots on the March!

Our students recently enjoyed an engaging and fun project in our BMS Makerspace, programming robots to perform certain movements and enjoying the challenge with their peers. Our BMS Makerspace seeks to provide students with a space to experiment with digital tools, learn strong ethical principles for using technology, and most of all, build their skills to see their passion and ideas come alive!

ALBA Grundschuliga—Alba Basketball Competition

Our 3 Alba Basketball Teams will face their opponents in a Primary School basketball competition on Thursday, Nov. 17th, competing with other teams in a Berlin-wide ALBA Berlin basketball tournament. Students from Grades 1-6 will be showing off their skills on the court. Stay tuned for highlights from the games! GO HAWKS!

“Lasst die Tiere Leben”: DP Students visit Rescued Farm Animal Sanctuary in Brandenburg

Together with Mr. Huet from our language department in Secondary School, five DP Students recently visited an animal sanctuary in East Brandenburg. DP students volunteered for over 5 hours, clearing out the stalls, barns, and animal living areas to assist in the sanctuary´s mission, helping these animals to have a safe and clean habitat.

DP German Language & Literature: Deutsches Theater Berlin Performance

Our Grade 11 DP students recently had the great pleasure to welcome the Deutsche Theater Berlin for a classroom performance based on Juli Zeh's novel, Corpus Delicti and part of the DT outreach program called “Klassenzimmerstück”. Our students had previously studied the novel in class and were inspired to see it come to life by the talented actors from the Berlin-based theater. Many thanks to the DT Team for the inspiration!

Anti-Bullying Campaigns @BMS

Throughout the month of November, BMS will host a series of workshops, talks and activities all aimed at the prevention of bullying at BMS. Our Secondary students will take part in a series of anti-bullying talks on November 16th & 24th, with the goal of educating our young adolescents on the many forms of explicit and implicit bullying, the psychological impacts on students, as well as how to prevent bullying. Our Grade 7-9 students are preparing for a public speaking competition on race, ethnicity, the influence of social media, and how these topics shape our culture. Individual students have been preparing over the course of the first term and are ready to present their arguments to their peers and the jury. Our Grade 11 parents are cordially invited to attend an informative session on the DP Extended Essay hosted by our EE Coordinator, Dr. Julie Mansuy, offering our parents an overview of the EE, an explanation of its core components, as well as an opportunity to pose any questions. We look forward to welcoming the admissions office of both the University of South California (USC) and New York University (NYU) on Thursday, October 13th for a presentation and meeting with interested BMS students. Together with university and career counselor, the representatives will explain admissions processes, campus life, and answer individual questions from BMS students.

IBDP CAS Initiative: RUN4EDUCATION 2022

BMS is teaming up with 4 Berlin-based international schools to kick-start the first CAS initiative for the year and is sponsoring runners to collect donations for their participation in a mini run at the Tempelhof historical event site in HANGAR1. Local charities will also be present, and our students will be offered the opportunity to speak with these organizations and brainstorm about what further CAS program they can organize.

Our Grade 4 students left this week for a camp week adventures @ Camp Lübben in the Spreewald, where they will hike in the woods, visit a local historical site of Wendish farmhouses learning how local lives hundreds of years ago, and take a trip to Bad Lübben to swim with penguins and have a disco with a campfire before they return to Berlin. We look forward to sharing a few impressions of their experiences soon!

We bid our Grade 3 students farewell this week, wishing them bon voyage as they travel to Camp Köthen in nature´s classroom, where they will learn to navigate the forest, build houses out of natural materials, and learn how to master the elements as part of their team-building fun on camp week!
