Extended Essay (EE) Symposium @BMS: March 21, 2023

Grade 11 DP students will soon showcase their work at an EE Symposium, offering them the opportunity to present their research, receive constructive feedback from the audience, and inspire the last round of writing and editing before their final draft is due. Our students will be presenting on various panels based on the research focus and students, faculty, and Grade 11 parents will be part of the audience. Congratulations to our students!

Secondary School Concert: March 24th @City Kino Wedding

Our resident artists and musicians are gearing up for another fabulous display of musicianship and artistic skills at the annual BMS Secondary School Concert on March24th. Over 20 acts will take to the stage, playing pop, jazz, classical, as well as R&B songs. Stay tuned for tickets reservations, which will open for our community very soon!

Congrats to our BMS Chess Team who took home 4 outstanding canter victories, taking home silver in the round-robin tournament played with 8 other teams. A job well done to Matti, Maximilian, Milan, Sara, and David. Thank you also to Coach Fietz for encouraging our students to achieve their best!

We would like to congratulate our students for an incredible Math Week and an engaging Math Day at BMS! The theme of how mathematicians are creative problem solvers was alive and well on campus and the activities planned brought out the mathematicians in our students across the school. A special congrats to our estimation jar winners in the Primary School!

BMS Scholars: Book Club

As part our BMS Scholars Program, students recently finished Vargas Llosa's acclaimed novel The Feast of the Goat. Together with their advisors from the Secondary Faculty, students reflected on topics such as the character traits of a dictator, the common conditions that contribute to the rise of totalitarian regimes, the type of damage caused to the social fabric under these regimes, as well as the specific ways in which literature and art shed light on historical truth. Well done to our scholars!

BMS Grade 12 Students Volunteer at Animal Shelter

A group of compassionate Grade 12 students recently volunteered at a farm animal Sanctuary in Brandenburg, braving the cold temperatures and sporadic freezing rain to clear away the barns, lay fresh hay, and improve the overall living environment of the animals. Our students were also able to test their farm skills, chasing away some rather cheeky ponies! A massive thank you to Mr. Huet and all our kind-hearted students who volunteered their time!

Our dedicated Model UN students had an amazing and highly engaging experience at the Berlin Model United Nations conference. With a total team of 18 students and 6 junior model UN students from Gr. 7&8 in the team, this experience was an opportunity to show their skills in diplomacy, negotiation, and leadership.

Our Gr. 10 & 11 students had a fun time exercising their math skills in the annual competition, testing their logical thinking and creative problem-solving skills together with their classmates. Thousands of students worldwide participate in the competition each year and 34 Gr. 10 &11 students represented BMS.

BMS Model UN Team to attend BERMUN

Our model UN team is ready to attend the first Model United Nations Simulation of 2023 at JFK Berlin in collaboration with the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung on February 23rd-25th, featuring the theme of responsible resource consumption & the just distribution of resources in our global world. Our youngest BMS MUN members will also be able to attend the Berlin-based conference, participating in the junior delegation.

Guest Professor visits BMS Secondary

BMS Secondary students recently enjoyed a lecture and Q&A discussion with Mr. Dubnov, Professor of History & Max Ticktin Chair of Israel Studies at The George Washington University and current fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin. Students discussed partition politics and examined case studies for impacts and future perspectives. Well done to Ron from Gr. 12 for leading the discussion rounds!

Our 16 finalists are ready to perform in the BMS Auditorium beginning at 15:30, showcasing their amazing acts of song, dance, instrumental, and more at our annual CCEP Talent Show. Our 6 Primary School student hosts will guide our audience through the evening´s program and jury members will announce the awards in the days following the performance. Mr. Dubberley from Human Rights Watch (HRW) visits BMS Classroom

Our DP students in Global Politics took part in a lecture and discussion round with Mr. Dubberley from the Digital Investigations Lab at Human Rights Watch and learned how HRW uses technology and open-source information to research and expose war crimes. Drawing on case-study examples form his work, Mr. Dubberly provided students will current examples and answered student queries on what he studied and how he became involved in human rights advocacy. A big thank you to Mr. Dubberly & the HRW team for providing our students with this opportunity.

Based on your donations, we were able to raise a total of 2,935 Euros for the Ukraine Hilfe Berlin Charity. An amazing outcome and an inspiring example of how powerful our community can be when working together for change!

A job well done to our Grade 10 and Grade 12 students on completing their last mock examinations before for the real thing in a few weeks! Over the last 2 weeks, our students have completed over 30 exams, providing them with the opportunity for feedback from their teachers before the final IGCSE and DP exams in Spring 2023.
