Senior Secondary School Grades 11&12
In Grades 11 and 12, students complete the IB Diploma, which is considered to be among the most rigorous and therefore most respected secondary school programs due to its demanding requirements.
BMS students entering the Senior School, Grades 11 and 12, will complete either the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBDP) or International Baccalaureate Certificate (IBCP). The IBD program at BMS is a two year Senior Secondary course of study that is considered excellent preparation for University and professional pursuits worldwide. The IB Diploma is viewed as an “international passport” to higher education. This diploma has existed for over 30 years and is offered at almost 2,000 schools in 116 countries. For Germany, a resolution of the Conference of Ministers of Education in June 2011 states the following: “An International Baccalaureate Diploma …… shall be recognized as valid for university admission, if it has been obtained after attending at least twelve years of full-time education.” Therefore the IB Diploma is an equivalent secondary school graduating qualification equal to the German Abitur.
Learning how to learn and to evaluate information critically is an integral part of the program. Students achieve a considerable depth of study within the broad curriculum in which subjects are studied concurrently to produce a well-rounded learner. This deliberate combination of breadth and depth equips students with the skills and attitudes they require to excel in university and vocational education, and encourages international understanding and responsible citizenship.
The IB provides an exciting, stimulating and intelligent course of study for students in grades 11 and 12. The IB Diploma:
- is a Secondary School Graduating Diploma with university admissions recognition in Germany and is considered an “international passport” to universities worldwide.
- encourages international mindedness within the foundation of students’ own language and culture
- supports students in taking responsibility for their own learning and learning how to learn, which is considered excellent preparation for university education
- has a reputation for a rigorous external assessment with published global standards, making this a qualification welcomed by universities worldwide
- emphasizes the development of the whole student – academically, physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically
In this intensive program, students are provided with comprehensive support in order to create the most fitting and optimal selection of subjects for each individual student. During the last year of their education, students will receive wide-ranging support when selecting universities in Germany and around the world, and the accompanying application process.
