IB Diploma

The IB Diploma is recognized by universities around the world in 110 countries. Some universities allow a year’s credit to students who have gained their Diploma; others give credits for some subjects taken. Statistically, IB students have an advantage in university admissions over other secondary school graduating certificates. University and academic staff around the world recognize the benefits of recruiting IB graduates for their universities and colleges. The benefits include:

  • Admission of students from a rigorous academic background, who know how to think and learn
  • The absence of any concerns about grade inflation

The IB Diploma is viewed as an ‘international passport’ to higher education. For Germany, a resolution of the Conference of Ministers of Education in June 2011 states the following: “An International Baccalaureate Diploma… shall be recognized as valid for university admission, if it has been obtained after attending at least twelve years of full-time education.” Therefore the IB Diploma is an equivalent secondary school graduating qualification equal to the Abitur.

“Academically well rounded and prepared for university study, IB graduates hit the ground running upon arrival at Richmond and are a perfect fit for Richmond’s challenging international curriculum and globally represented student body.”
Mark Kopenski, Vice President and Dean, Richmond, The American International University in London

“IB is well known to us for its excellent preparations. Success in an IB program correlates well with success at Harvard University. We are always pleased to see the credentials of the IB Diploma Program on the transcript.”
