School Life
Our goal is to make the time in Preschool wonderful for our students. We wish to stimulate and inspire them, to support and challenge them. We work hard and play a great deal. We seek to take each child’s skills and competences into consideration and to provide each student with the best start in life. Our school day is determined by the work in our units and is clearly structured in order to create a balance between free play time and learning time as well as between outdoor activities and work in the classroom. We start at 9am with the Morning Circle in order to begin our day together. We practice routines, free speaking, concentrating in a group, and experiencing community. After the Morning Circle, we devote our attention to our units, where we work in groups, exploring the world of numbers, letters and science, and use our classrooms as a source of stimulation and a resource. Oftentimes different groups will work together or students will move from station to station during a class, and we regularly invite students from upper grades to come read to us, present their learning results, or simply to foster an exchange with our youngest students.
Regular class trips and visits to our school library support our research work in the various units. Furthermore, we work together with the Science Lab, which supports our research with experiments to explain scientific principles and contexts. Music and movement classes help our students to express themselves artistically. In order to keep up students’ energy, they are provided with a fruit snack in the morning, a warm lunch at noon, and a light snack in the afternoon. The days full of intense work are challenging for our students, which is why we have a rest break after lunch, during which the children can nap, read, or simply doze in order to regain their energy for the second part of the day, which mainly consists of free playtime.
