Pastoral Care
Beyond fostering our students’ academic excellence, we are committed to supporting the psychological wellbeing of our students, for reasons beyond the fact that it has a direct influence on students’ learning achievements, ability to concentrate and their capacity to absorb information.
It is natural that during the course of the school day, tensions will arise between students; friendship, enmity, jealousy and competition, and exclusion are topics that influence the school day, class dynamics and, finally, the wellbeing of the individual students. We cannot and will not “train them out” of the students. What we can do, however, is to train our students to deal with their legitimate feelings, to make them aware of the mechanics of action and reaction, to encourage them to reflect on their actions and feelings, and to help them when they are unsure about the next step. We are educators and teachers. However, we are also partners, mentors and confidantes. Our students and teachers as well as our parents can find support from our School Counselor, who helps us to analyze situations and derive courses of action, but who primarily observes, listens and is simply there when our students need him. In addition, our school nurse takes care of the physical wellbeing of our students, and beyond that is always ready to listen and to offer comforting words. In particular, she is responsible for taking care of our students with allergies and physical discomforts, and she ensures that each child is taken care of according to his or her needs.
